Dance with devil? Paganini did. At least that's the rumor. How else could he posses such electrifying virtuosity? Rachmaninoff peppered his romantic rhapsody with snippets of the Gregorian chant for the Dead, perhaps attempting to redeem Paganini's soul. Forbidden passion prevails in Messiaen's mammoth Turangalilia Symphony. His dance blurred the boundary between physical and spiritual love and flirted with the consequences associated with earthly desire.
