Pianist Marino Formenti — who makes his Philharmonic debut tonight ( in Hungarian Echoes: A Philharmonic Festival — takes a moment after his first rehearsal with the Orchestra to discuss the Ligeti Piano Concerto, in which, Mr. Formenti explains, "The piano becomes all of the pianos of piano history... In one movement you're Chopin... later you must play like Jelly Roll Morton." "Hungarian Echoes," conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, is March 10--26 at Avery Fisher Hall.
