Author: St. Louis Symphony Orchestra
A St. Louis Symphony Orchestra string quartet consisting of Hannah Ji and Wendy Rosen, violins; Leo Plashinov-Johnson, viola; and Bjorn Ranheim, cello, perform a portion of Florence Price's String Quartet in G, Movement II. The concert took place on September 20, 2020, in Tower Grove Park as part of the SLSO's On the Go concert series—a series of outdoor, socially distanced chamber ensemble and solo performances at locations throughout the St. Louis metro area. Florence Price was a trailblazing composer, becoming the first African-American woman to have her work performed by a major symphony orchestra. During her lifetime, she composed more than 300 works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, solo piano and organ, voice and more, including the string quartet, which draws inspiration from her heritage.
