Performed on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Rothko Chapel in Houston, Texas by Claire Chase, flute, alto flute, piccolo; Steven Schick, percussion; Sarah Rothenberg, piano/celesta In the contemplative setting of Rothko Chapel, Da Camera presents a performance of Morton Feldman's monumental masterpiece For Philip Guston, completed 30 years ago on November 9, 1984. Written in memory of his close friend, from whom the composer had been estranged for over ten years, this moving late work encompasses all that the fiercely independent composer invented in music. Scored for flute/piccolo, percussion and piano, this rarely performed serene and majestic work is a four-hours plus marathon.
