Everest, commissioned by the Dallas Opera, is a world premiere. In one act, about 70 minutes long, it’s based on the true story of an ill-fated 1996 Mount Everest expedition that included Dallas pathologist Beck Weathers. It’s the work of librettist Gene Scheer, whose operatic credits include the Dallas Opera’s 2010 Moby-Dick, and British composer Joby Talbot.
