He goes on to say: "CIM’s student orchestra is fearless, taking on substantial programs like Wednesday’s challenging combination of Mussorgsky, Grieg and Prokofiev. Severance Hall had its usual glow on Wednesday, Sept. 12, when Carl Topilow, director of the Cleveland Institute of Music orchestral program, presented a remarkable concert. All three works played were true masterworks—two from the Twentieth Century and one from the Nineteenth. It is difficult to choose the highpoint, because all three pieces were beautifully performed.
