The orchestra was founded in 2002 for a performance in Canterbury Cathedral as part of the Canterbury Festival. The concert, which included performances of Stravinsky's Pulcinella Suite, Mozart's Symphony No. 40 and Albinoni's Double Oboe Concerto, was conducted by Nicholas Daniel (international conductor and oboist) and received an enthusiastic reception.
