Jean-Philippe Rameau, Composer
59 fans
(1683 - 1764).  French composer and music theorist.  He was first known as a virtuoso organist and music theorist, and later for his keyboard compositions and theatrical works.  His Treatise on Harmony and his artistic philosophy were both greatly admired and controversial.  While his operas and ballets are only rarely revived today, he remains a important figure in the history of music.
