Zoltán Kodály, Composer
(1882-1967). Hungarian composer, teacher, critic, ethnomusicologist. His early studies were in singing, piano, the violin, viola, and cello. Kodaly soon entered the Academy of Music in Budapest, eventually earning a PhD in Hungarian Folk Song studies. His activities in collecting and editing folk songs with fellow student Bela Bartok had a profound influence on his own musical compositions.
