Ernest Chausson, Composer
(1855 - 1899). French composer. He studied law and graduated, then pursued musical studies with Massenet and Franck at the Paris Conservatoire. His family's industrial fortune ensured he would never need to work at either profession. He did, however, remain an active participant in French musical life and artist circles, encouraging young musical talents, including Debussy.
