(1833 - 1887).  Russian composer.  He was only a part-time musician, due to his work and travel as an internationally known chemist.  A member of the so-called "Russian Five" circle of composers, he completed several masterfully orchestrated and lyrically suggestive works of Russian and Asian inspiration, though many of these compositions remained unfinished.
