Angel Hernandez, violinÂ
Angel Hernandez-Dominguez was born in
Cuba, where he began his studies on the violin at the Manuel Saumell
Conservatory in Havana. At the age of 16, Hernandez moved to Mexico to begin
his career as a professional musician. There he held positions in the
Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra, the Queretaro Philharmonic, and most
recently the OFUNAM Philharmonic (at the Autonomous National University of
Mexico), where he also performed as soloist on several occasions. Hernandez
also honed his skills as a violin maker at the Luthier’s School of the National
Institute of Fine Arts in Queretaro. Since then, Hernandez has placed his
instruments in the hands of professional musicians across Mexico, including the
concertmaster of OFUNAM and the concertmaster of the National Chamber Orchestra
of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Angel Hernandez moved to the United States in
2006. He is currently making violins on commission for students and
professionals in the area, and performs actively as a member of Orchestra of
Indian Hill, Camerata New England, the Nashaway Piano Trio and the Bangor
Symphony Orchestra. He is a member of the string faculty at Indian Hill Music, Cushing
Academy, and Shrewsbury Public Schools.
