Biography

Ana Torbica started her musical education by playing the violin and singing in the Children's Choir of the Radio-Television of Serbia. After finishing her secondary music education in violin at the Dr Vojislav Vuckovic Music School in Belgrade, she continued her undergraduate studies in singing at the Faculty of Arts in Nis, followed by postgraduate studies in baroque viola at the Royal Academy of Music in London. As the Master of Arts student in Historical Performance, she currently studies baroque viola with Jane Rogers and singing with Michael Chance. For her studies at the Academy, she received the Christopher Hogwood Scholarship, the Royal Academy of Music Bursary and the Andreas and Margaret Makris Matching Scholarship, while a generous grant from Macfarlane Walker Trust enabled her to purchase a new baroque viola by Jan Pawlikowski.


Ana's interest in the historical performance came through the work at the Baroque Academies in Belgrade and Austria, as well as the Dartington International Summer School in England. She participated in the masterclasses with eminent artists such as Thomas Hampson, Marijana Mijanovic, Evelyn Tubb, Darina Takova, Ottaviano Tenerani, Ilia Korol, Florian Deuter, Bojan Cicic, Adrian Butterfield, Robert Howarth, William Bauer, Roberta Mameli, Christian Hiltz, Christian Frattima and Marina Bartoli-Compostella, Renata Pokupic, and others. She also collaborated with artists such as Trevor Pinnock, Philippe Herreweghe, Rachel Podger, Lawrence Cummings, John Butt, Pavlo Beznosiuk and Margaret Faultless in various projects at the Royal Academy of Music.


As an active performer, Ana appeared as a soprano soloist and a baroque violist with professional ensembles such as New Trinity Baroque (dir. Predrag Gosta), Savaria Baroque Orchestra (dir. Pál Németh), as well as with the Baroque Orchestra of the New Belgrade Opera and of the Belgrade Early Music Festival. She also has appeared at many festivals and competitions, where she won numerous prizes, especially in the chamber music and singing. As a modern violist, she has performed with the Makris Symphony Orchestra in Serbia and the Gwinnett Ballet Theatre Orchestra in Atlanta. From 2018 she is a freelance artist in her home country as a member of the Association of Musical Artists of Serbia. She is featured on a CD recording of Buxtehude's "Membra Jesu Nostri" with New Trinity Baroque.


Ana is passionate about sport and especially likes swimming and riding a bicycle.
