Jory Herman, Director of Community Engagement for Art of Élan, has performed
regularly on stage as a double bassist with Art of Élan since 2011. His passion
for arts advocacy began while in the New World Symphony in Miami Beach,
where he and other musicians would connect with the community in locations
outside of the traditional concert hall. In his experiences there, he witnessed the
powerful change that the arts can bring. He hopes to continue to innovate and
inspire a new generation of arts lovers in the San Diego and beyond. Mr.
Herman has been a member of the San Diego Symphony since 2010 and has
previously performed with the National Symphony in Washington DC. A native of
Houston, he received both a Bachelors and Masters of Music Performance in an
Honors degree program at Rice University. Mr. Herman regularly performs solo
recitals and with chamber music organizations such as Camarada, Luscious
Noise, San Diego New Music, Carlsbad Music Festival, and Camera Lucida. His
music education experiences include private teaching, bass instruction for the
Mira Mesa and Rancho Bernardo High School Orchestra programs, and teaching
as a Studio Artist Teacher at San Diego State University. As a recording artist,
the Union-Tribune praised his debut album of music by J.S. Bach stating “You’ll
never think of the bass the same way again.”
