Biography
Marciem Bazell (Director) is recognized for her vibrant and insightful interpretations of opera and music theater productions. A consummate artist whose early studies and professional work included voice and oboe, Bazell has directed for the Sarasota Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Delaware, Curtis Institute of Music, Academy of Vocal Arts, Cedar Rapids Opera, Opera Illinois, Boheme Opera of New Jersey, El Paso Opera, Sylvan Opera of Philadelphia, New England Conservatory of Music, and the Fresno Philharmonic. She has also directed and trained the young artists of the Chautauqua, Virginia, and Sarasota Opera programs. Bazell’s directorial credits include collaborations with Joyce Castle, Mark Delavan, Shari Gruber, and Eduardo Valdez, and productions of Susannah, Faust, Tosca, Die Lustige Witwe, La tragédie de Carmen, Romeo et Juliette, L’elisir d’amore, I Pagliacci, Gianni Schicchi, Suor Angelica, Die Dreigroschenoper, The Turn of the Screw, La traviata, La bohème, Rigoletto, Hänsel und Gretel, Albert Herring, Le nozze di Figaro, Così fan tutte, Arianna a Naxos, Don Giovanni, South Pacific, Jacques Brell..., and Museum, a collaboration with choreographer Myra Bazell. Bazell is currently director of opera at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance.
