Biography
The Burlington Chamber Orchestra was organized in the summer of 2007 with a group of Vermont musicians as a public charity to advance the arts and culture in Chittenden County. The orchestra performs an annual series of concerts of western classical music in Burlington, and focuses on the body of repertoire for the small, or “chamber” orchestra. One of the things that makes the Burlington Chamber Orchestra a special organization is that the musicians of the orchestra are not just highly skilled artists; since they all live in Vermont they are also responsible for the music education of hundreds of students who live in Chittenden County and surrounding areas. We are a community orchestra that is also a very high quality professional orchestra. We hold a Young Artist Solo Competition each year, and feature the winner on our season finale performances. Several of the soloists we have featured with the orchestra are prominent Vermont musicians. We are also involved in community partnerships with several other organizations and artists including the Opera Company of Middlebury, Bella Voce Women's Chorus, the UVM Lane Series, and Vermont choreographers Paul Besaw and Clare Byrne.
