Biography

Juan-Salvador attends the
Crossroads School in Santa Monica and studies cello at the Colburn School of
Performing Arts with Ron Leonard, former principal cellist of the Los Angeles
Philharmonic. Juan-Salvador has won 1st Place in the ASTA California State Solo
Competition, the Los Angeles Violoncello Society Competition, and the Parness
Concerto Competition for Young Artists, in addition to being a semi-finalist for the nationwide Sphinx Competition
and receiving the 2010-2011 Zipper Award. He has performed the Elgar cello concerto with the Culver City Symphony Orchestra,
the Haydn C major cello concerto with the Topanga Symphony Orchestra, and the
Saint-Saëns cello concerto with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Coyoacán in Mexico
City. In August 2009 Juan-Salvador played the Elgar concerto for Yo-Yo Ma and
Plácido Domingo, who gave him a joint master class!He
has also had master classes with cellists Anner Bylsma, Colin, David Finckel, Paul
Katz, and Ralph Kirshbaum, and has played privately for violinist Itzhak Perlman
and conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Juan-Salvador is the cellist of the Colburn Honors
String Quartet and is a member of the American Youth Symphony. He is a frequent
guest in the Colburn Musical Encounters program, which brings classical music
to public schools in Los Angeles. He plays a Becker cello on loan from a private foundation.
