Biography
In 2006, Ms. Anna Burden made her Alice Tully Hall debut as soloist with the Juilliard Orchestra. She has performed extensively throughout the United States, as soloist with the Washington Chamber Symphony at the Kennedy Center, the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra, and the Oak Park Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed recitals at the Kennedy Center and the Chicago Cultural Center, for the Young Steinway Concert Series, and for the Fontana Chamber Arts recital series, among others. Ms. Burden is the winner of numerous competitions titles and prizes, including the Grand Prize in the Music Teachers National Association Competition; First Place in the Society of American Musicians Competition; and winner of the Kishwaukee Symphony Concerto Competition, the Northwestern University Concerto Competition and the Juilliard Concerto Competition, among others. She is a top prize winner of numerous other competitions, including the Washington International Competition (2003); silver medal at the Stulberg International Strings Competition (2004); and second prize and the Vincent R. Bastien Memorial Cello Award at the WAMSO Young Artists Competition (2005). Ms. Burden was a semi-finalist at the Rostropovich International Cello Competition and is one of two American cellists selected to compete in the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow in 2007. She has received scholarship awards from the Musicians Club of Women, Winnetka Music Club, and the National Foundation for Achievement in the Arts. As a chamber musician, Ms. Burden won First Place with the Orion Piano Trio at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition junior division in 2002. In addition, she also won top prizes at Fischoff in 2000 and 2001. She performed with the Orion Piano Trio and the Versailles Piano Quintet on National Public Radio's "From the Top" program, and appeared with the Versailles Piano Quintet was featured on A & E's television series, "The Competition." Ms. Burden has served as the principal cellist of the Juilliard Orchestra and the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, and she recently performed at Carnegie Hall as principal cellist of the New York String Orchestra Seminar. Ms. Burden, a native of Chicago, studied with Nell Novak, Richard Aaron, and Hans Jensen. She has attended Music Academy of the West, The Piatigorsky Seminar for Cellists, the National Arts Center Young Artists Program, and most recently Yellow Barn Music School. Ms. Burden holds a Bachelor Degree in cello performance from Northwestern University and a Master’s Degree at the Juilliard School, where she studied with Joel Krosnick and Darrett Adkins.
