LANA KOS
soprano
In 2009, Lana Kos made her acclaimed debut in the title role in
Janacek‘s The cunning little Vixen in Tel Aviv, Israel’s first staging
of this opera, produced by David Pountney. In November 2009,
the soprano made another successful debut: as Gretel in
Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel under the baton of Graeme Jenkins at the
Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
Starring as Violetta in a new production of Verdi’s La traviata by Hugo de Ana, she
made her debut at Slovenian Maribor Opera during the 2008/2009 season. Starring
Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata, Lana Kos made her debut at the Ljubljana Festival
2009 and later that month she sang extracts of La traviata at a gala concert in Parma.
Lana Kos was born in 1984 and studied solo singing at the Music School of Varaždin,
continued her musical studies at the Music Academy, University of Zagreb, with Lidija
Horvat-Dunjko. In 2003 she won the state competition in Dubrovnik.
At the age of eighteen, Lana Kos made her debut as Queen of the Night in Mozart‘s
Die Zauberflöte at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb in 2002, a part she
performed a little later at the Ljubljana National Theatre. Subsequently she sang in
Francisco Cavalli’s Pompeo Magno at the Varaždin Baroque Nights Festival. In 2004,
she performed Madama Cortese/Il viaggio a Reims at the Wexford Festival.
At the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the soprano made her debut in 2005 under the
baton of Mstislav Rostropovich in the part of Natasha Rostova in Prokofiev’s War and
Peace.
At the Bavarian State Opera Lana Kos she worked in new productions with
conductors such as Daniele Gatti, Nicola Luisotti, Kent Nagano, Tomáš Netopil and
Kirill Petrenko.
As concert artist Lana Kos regularly sings in Austria, Germany and Italy – in gala
concerts she appeared together with bass Paata Burchuladze in Athen, Liège,
Moscow, Odessa and Samara.
In the summer of 2010, Lana Kos makes her first appearance at Austria’s famous
operetta festival, Seefestspiele Mörbisch, starring Sonja for the first time in a new
production of Lehár’s The Tzarevitch.
During the 2010/2011 season, the soprano Lana Kos is starring Mimi/La bohème,
Juliette/Romeo et Juliette and Violetta/La traviata at Maribor Opera.
