Biography
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is an American orchestra founded in 1891. To think of it is to think of Fritz Reiner, Georg Solti, and Adolph Herseth, but not necessarily in that order. One of its concertmasters (Steven Staryk) once said that the sound of the Chicago Symphony was all glass and steel, but that’s not quite true. Almost from its inception, the orchestra has been one of the premier cultural organizations in the country. It has toured extensively and has a vast discography. Its main venue is Orchestra Hall in downtown Chicago.
