Biography
Eminent American conductor Andrew Litton was born in New York and educated at the Juilliard School where he studied piano and conducting. A protege of Mstislav Rostropovich, Litton began his serious conducting career as an Exxon Arts Endowment Conducting Fellow with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. He later went on to lead the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for twelve seasons. He became music director of the Bergen Philharmonic in Norway in 2003 where he continues to present innovative concerts. Maestro Litton is particularly at home in the music of American composers, and his performances of the music of Mahler and Shotakovich have won him wide acclaim.
