Biography
(1804-1857).  Russian composer.

Glinka traveled widely throughout Europe, and studied music in Italy, in Berlin and St. Petersburg.  He is best remembered for his operas "A Life for the Czar" and "Ruslan and Ludmila", with their infusion of Russian folk and musical elements.

He also composer many influential orchestral works, the best of which are the 2 Spanish Overtures (Jota aragonesa and Summer Night in Madrid), his Valse-Fantaisie, and Kamarinskaya. His most often performed and best known work is the Overture to the opera Ruslan and Ludmila.
