Biography
(1867-1944).  American composer and pianist.  Also known as Mrs. H.H.A. Beach, she was concertizing as a pianist by the 1880's. Among her earliest works, her Mass in E flat major was the first work by a woman composer to be performed (1892) by Boston's Handel and Haydn Society.  Soon after, the Boston Symphony performed a Symphony and Piano Concerto by her, with the composer as soloist.

After her husband's death in 1910, Beach toured Europe as pianist and composer with great success, returning to the U.S. in 1914.  She resided in New York and remained active as a composer through the 1930's.
