Biography
(1883-1953).  British composer.  Bax studied at the Royal Academy of Music, was knighted in 1937, and became Master of the King's Music from 1942-1953.  A brilliant pianist, he wrote several works for the keyboard, but it is his orchestral and chamber music which are most often heard in recordings and in the concert hall.

Bax had a special interest in celtic music and lore.  His tone poem "Tintagel" is his most famous work.  It was written after a visit to Tintagel Castle, associated with the legends surrounding King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table.

His 7 Symphonies also contain a wealth of great music.
