What is it about the German-speaking world that left us with such an incredible wealth of great music? From J.S. Bach’s incredible counterpoint, the flowering of classics from Mozart and Haydn, a Romantic generation with giants like Mendelssohn, Brahms, Schumann, Wagner and Brahms, and a turn-of-the-century intensification of musical expression through composers like Mahler, Strauss, Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern, this central European musical tradition flowered over 200 years. With works of charm, sophistication, beauty, and rich drama, we explore some of the most adored music to have even been performed on the world’s concert stages.
