Kenneth Radnofsky
Boston, Massachusetts
Monday, 15 February 2016 - 8:00 PM
Great artists give free concerts at New England Conservatory—simply because they teach here.

Saxophonist Kenneth Radnofsky performs works composed for him by Boston composers, including the world premiere of Yang Yong's Lyric Dialogues, Jakov Jakoulov's Orpheus Decending, and John McDonald's Gunther Simple Elegy. Radnofsky is joined by pianist Yoshiko Kline, pianist John McDonald, and Cellist Guy Fishman.

With the performance of Gunther Schuller's Sonata and the premier of McDonald's Gunther Simple Elegy, the performers wish to honor the former New England Conservatory president. Ranofsky writes:

"I have known Gunther Schuller since 1974, when I was a student at New England Conservatory. Our relationship has grown through the years, and becomes more important with each passing day; amongst highlights were participating in his historic Paul Whiteman recordings as a student, our premiere of his saxophone Concerto with the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the NY premiere of the work with the National Orchestra Association At Carnegie Hall. From Gunther I learned to look twice, even three times or more at the same note—to try to make sure I understood the meaning of each note and its relationship to all the others. His uncompromising integrity has been a model for me to try to live up to."
