Generously supported by Leslie & Anna Dan

PRELUDE RECITAL

Each Royal Conservatory Orchestra concert is preceded by a short performance care of talented students of The Glenn Gould School. Prelude Recitals start at 6:45pm.

Maestra Tania Miller is on the cutting edge of classical music. Her “experience and charisma are audible.” (Hartford Courant) This concert includes Jared Miller’s Traffic Jam, Max Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy with Heidi Hatch (violin), and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5.

As Music Director of the Victoria Symphony, and the first Canadian woman ever to be Music Director of a major symphony orchestra, Tania Miller is used to blazing new paths in the world of classical music. Prior to Victoria, Tania Miller spent four seasons as associate and assistant conductor with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, working with Bramwell Tovey. She worked with Bruno Weil as assistant conductor of the Carmel (California) Bach Festival for four seasons and led the contemporary chamber orchestra ERGO for several seasons with concerts in Toronto, New York and Munich. Tania Miller is a powerful and engaging communicator – about music and through music. The Victoria Times-Colonist calls her performances “technically immaculate, vivid and stirring.” ()

The Royal Conservatory Orchestra (RCO), widely regarded as an outstanding ensemble and one of the best training orchestras in North America, consists of instrumental students in the Performance Diploma Program and Artist Diploma Program of The Glenn Gould School. Graduates have joined the ranks of the greatest orchestras in the world, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the BBC Orchestra, the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic, Tafelmusik, the Hallé Orchestra of Manchester, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Leipzig Gewandhaus.
