Liederpalooza: An Open House for Art Song
Chicago, Illinois
Saturday, 6 September 2014 - 2:00 PM
Presenter: VOX 3 Collective
Ensemble: VOX 3 Collective
VOX 3 Collective presents an extended “open house” afternoon of art song to benefit The Lied, Art Song, and Choral Texts Archive, an online repository of classical song texts and translations. Begun as a small project in 1995, amateur and professional singers around the world use this valuable resource to discover new repertoire, assist in translating poetic texts, or assemble thematic threads. We begin our season with this treasure trove concert of Lieder, to help keep this site alive!

Over 30 of Chicago’s finest young singers offer vital, engaging performances of song repertoire spanning over 200 years and 7 languages. Included are featured song cycles by Gustav Mahler (Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen), Libby Larsen (Try Me, Good King), and Francis Poulenc (Fiançailles pour rire). Assorted works by Satie, Dell’acqua, and Debussy; Schumann, Schubert, and Brahms; Sibelius and Stenhammar; Gordon, Duke, Heggie, and Mehldau; Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Mussorgsky, and Alabiev round out the program. Drop in for a few moments, or stay the whole afternoon in the elegant, comfortable new space at PianoForte Chicago.

Liederpalooza is presented from 2:00-5:00pm on Saturday, September 6 at PianoForte Chicago, 1335 S Michigan Avenue. Music Director James Morehead and acclaimed Russian pianist Irina Feoktistova accompany the numerous vocalists. Admission is free. All proceeds benefit Lieder.Net, The Lied, Art Song, and Choral Texts Archive.
