NEC Symphony, Loebel / Prokofiev
Boston, Massachusetts
Wednesday, 4 March 2015 - 8:00 PM
Ensemble: NEC Symphony
Conductor: David Loebel
NEC partners with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Insights Series programs that complement and offer context for music played by the BSO.

This year's theme is Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and the important scores that were commissioned and/or choreographed by that epochal company. The BSO is also "celebrating the orchestra's connection to this important repertoire through Serge Koussevitzky, who as BSO music director was among the first to introduce these composers' important works to American audiences."

On this concert, David Loebel conducts music of Prokofiev, who was represented on the Ballets Russes' roster with "Chout" (1921), "Pas d'acier" (1927), and "The Prodigal Son" (1929).

Soloist in the Brahms "Violin Concerto" is Eunae Koh '15 M.M., a student of Donald Weilerstein, who won the NEC Violin Concerto Competition.
