NEC Philharmonia, Loebel / Weill, Bach, Berg, Hindemith
Boston, Massachusetts
Wednesday, 5 March 2014 - 8:00 PM
While the Third Reich
Was Rising

As part of NEC's Music: Truth to Power festival, David Loebel, Associate Director of Orchestras, conducts orchestral suites from two operas - Hindemith's Mathis der Maler and Weill's The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.

Completing the program is Berg's Violin Concerto, with soloist Robert Anemone '12, '14 MM, a student of James Buswell, who was chosen in the Conservatory concerto competition.

The Hindemith work pits the protagonist artist against a repressive political regime, while the Weill was an anti-capitalist, anti-opera. The Berg distilled the political tumult of 1930s Europe.
