NEC Contemporary Ensemble, Heiss / Ligeti, Harbison, Heiss, Britten
Boston, Massachusetts
Monday, 28 October 2013 - 8:00 PM
Conductor: John Heiss
Each year John Heiss recruits students interested in performing 20th- and 21st-century music to join the NEC Contemporary Ensemble. This year, the group's season begins with modernist works from the 1960s to now.

As we celebrate Benjamin Britten's centennial, his String Quartet No. 3 completes a small but telling cycle that skips across the composer's entire lifespan. His work in this form includes unnumbered quartets wirtten while he was still in his teens; official First and Second quartets from 1941 and 1945, and the Third, written in 1975, just before his death. For more Britten, visit the Boston Symphony Orchestra the week of November 7 for performances of the War Requiem.
