Reflections: on loss
San Diego, California
Tuesday, 25 February 2014 - 7:00 PM
Presenter: Art of Élan
Conductor: Steven Schick
7PM on February 25th, 2014

Loss has touched all of us in some way, and some of history's most powerful works of art have their roots in the pain of death and mourning. This concert features two of our time's most eloquent composers contemplating different aspects of death: Anna Clyne's elegiac Within Her Arms is a beautifully heartfelt reflection on the life and death of her mother, while David Lang explores the many facets of suffering in The Little Match Girl Passion, setting the Hans Christian Andersen story to the format of Bach's St. Matthew Passion. A 15-piece string section, Art of Élan’s largest ever, highlight this evening’s performance.
