Partch: Eroica Dances
Los Angeles, California
Friday, 7 June 2013 - 8:30 PM
Saturday, 8 June 2013 - 8:30 PM
In a welcome return, the Grammy-nominated ensemble devoted to the works of American composer and maverick musician Harry Partch performs a program centered on the Marimba Eroica—one of Partch’s custom-designed instruments. Weighing in at 847 pounds and eight-feet in length, the Eroica generates tones even lower than the bass marimba. Partch wrote, “In the right room acoustically, the Eroica is felt through the feet, against the belly, and, if one sits on the floor, it ripples through [one’s] bottom. It is very difficult to put on tape, and especially, on records, with any fidelity.” Experience this rippling, earth-shaking concert event that includes the works Plectra and Percussion Dances and Dance Pantomime (King Oedipus).

tricleffer Partch was wacky and wonderful! They did a wonderful job faithfully presenting the alternative universe that is the music of Harry Partch. The audience was sold, and even demanded an encore. I hope to see this ensemble again in concert very soon. read more
