Julian Steckel | Paul Rivinius
Lucerne, Switzerland
Tuesday, 11 September 2012 - 12:15 PM
Presenter: Lucerne Festival
He has already won many awards, including the Concours Rostropovich in Paris, the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann in Berlin, the Casals Competition in Kronberg, and the Borletti Buitoni Trust in London. But when Julian Steckel won the ARD Music Competition in September 2010, along with three special prizes, his life changed abruptly: “There was a really incredible avalanche of phone calls, text messages, and emails. I think I still haven’t responded to all of them,” he said a year later. Ever since, the 29-year-old Steckel, who studied with Boris Pergamenschikow and Heinrich Schiff, has toured as a soloist throughout Europe, ranking among the internationally sought-after cellists of the young generation. And all this quite apart from the fact that he has meanwhile developed a reputation as a professor at the Conservatory of Music in Rostock. He is already well known at LUCERNE FESTIVAL, where he now makes his solo debut, since over the last three years Julian Steckel performed as a member of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA.
