Beethoven: The Sonata Legacy

  • Piano Sonatas Nos. 1-32 (Complete)

Performed by Rudolf Buchbinder (piano)

Recorded live at the Semper Opera, in Dresden, Germany, during seven concerts; There are 9 CD’s in this collection.

Rudolph Buchbinder is a perfectionist who insists on absolute reverence for original manuscripts. There is an amazing force in Buchbinder’s playing, supported by his physical strength and his deep convictions about music.

Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder’s career began early, when he was the youngest student to attend the Vienna Academy of Music at age 5. Buchbinder went on to perform worldwide with some of the most famous orchestras and conductors, and became a regular at the Salzburg Festival.

He has been a piano professor at Basel Academy of Music, and is the founding artistic director of the Grafenegg Music Festival in Vienna.

Here is Rudolf Buchbinder’s explanation, while talking about the special character of his new recording. “With this new complete Beethoven cycle, I was first and foremost concerned with its musical spirit… It only appears when the musician is making music right there live in front of the audience. When you record in the studio, you are less nervous, you play in a more controlled way and are more focused on other issues than when you perform on the concert platform“.
