Oistrakh has always been one of my all time favorite violinists. While he could have gone to Europe or America, he remained with the people of his homeland even though the Russian government took most of his royalties. He was a tireless worker, a powerful concert violinist and sensitive chamber musician. He was a humble and gracious man. I consider his Shostokovich to be the authoritative interpretations.

I did not listen to this. Oistrakh was never my favorite violinist.
