Dear Maestro Thomas Hampson, Thank you for these free downloads of your Song of America Recital at Minnesota Beethoven Festival in July 2009. I was fortunate enough to experience this recital live in Winona, MN. Thank you for taking the time to meet with fans after your recital with Craig Rutenberg.

Bless Mr. Hampson for making a study of the great American songs, so many of which are unknown. It's interesting to hear a "current" reading of some of the Copland collections. His interpretations have changed - pershaps for the better.

A pure and beautiful voice, and even beyond the great voice is the importance of showcasing American composers. What a wealth of songs is out there. Can't wait to hear more Hampson discoveries.

I am so grateful that I could obtain this album. I was in need of some seriously amazing music to wipe away a glumy day. It was an oasis in an emotional desert.

His singing is so often impressive-- expressive, playful, free ... but sometimes I am completely underwhelmed by a recording here and there, for instance, the Hopkinson piece at the beginning of this album. It sounds forced and not tuned into his accompanist... maybe it's just me? ...

I first heard Hampson singing "The Wound Dresser" live. I've never been able to find/obtain this recording. It was an absolutely awesome performance, mainly because it was new to Hampson, and it was said, he was reading the score as he sang!

No one has served "the American Art Song" like Thomas Hampson. Thank you for this, but also for sharing your artistry from Verdi to Wagner and Schumann to Zemlinsky with many points in between.

Very interesting choice of songs, most of which are virtually unknown outside the US! I especially like the Charles Ives setting of IN FLANDERS FIELDS...I have always loved the poem.
