Using your own Domain
When you purchase a website through InstantEncore you automatically receive a unique
InstantEncore URL (i.e. artistname.instantencore.com). In addition, you can use
your own domain (i.e. artistname.com) to access your website. The instructions below
will tell you how to do this.
Register your domain name
If you don’t have a domain already you will need to register one with a domain registrar
such as
GoDaddy.
Tell InstantEncore your domain name
In the Website management area of the Control Panel go to the
Use your own Domain
page and enter your domain name (i.e. artistname.com).
Map your domain name to your InstantEncore website
In order for users to be directed to your InstantEncore website when they type in
your domain in a browser you will need to update your "A Records". A Records are
settings in the internet's Domain Name System (DNS) which tell the internet where
to look for your website. You can update your A Records via the domain registar
that you used to register your domain (such as GoDaddy).
Updating A Records (General)
- Sign into your domain name registrar account and go to the DNS management page.
This page may also be called Name Server Management.
- Navigate to the page or dialog that lets you edit your “A (Host) Record”. Leave
the “Host Name” as @. In the "Points to IP Address" field enter
184.73.223.112. Leave the TTL value as the default.
Save changes.
- Next, add or edit a second A Record. If you have an existing A Record with a Host
Name of * (a single asterisk), edit that record. Otherwise, add a new A Record.
In the "Host Name" field enter * (a single asterisk). In the "Points to IP Address"
field enter
184.73.223.112. Leave the TTL value as the default.
Save changes.
Your domain is now setup to point to your InstantEncore website. Please note that
it make take 24 hours for the settings to propagate throughout the internet. During
this time you may not be taken to your InstantEncore website when you type in your
domain in a browser.
If you have difficulty updating your A Records please contact your domain registrar.
This is a common request and they should quickly be able to get you setup.
