Julius Baker was the principal flutist of the Chicago Symphony and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra as well as teacher for many years at the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute.  His lovely tone,  sure technique, and many fine recordings set the standard for flute playing in the U.S. in the 2nd half of the 20th century and his students can be found in many major orchestras, universities, and professional positions.
