Emanuel Ax, Piano
Emanuel Ax is a Russian (Ukrainian) pianist and teacher born on June 8, 1949 (Stravinsky was about 67 years old.) Ax began his piano studies with his father at age 6. By the time he was 10, the family had moved from Poland to Canada. In 1961 (at age 12) he entered the Juilliard School in New York. He has been concertizing worldwide since about 1969, playing as a recitalist, as a soloist with orchestra, and as a member of chamber music ensembles. Ax now teaches at the Juilliard School.
