Wow....finally back in Australia. It has been 10 years since I last performed in this wonderful country. I was singing Tolomeo in Opera Australia's famous Giulio Cesare production with Jennifer Mcgregor and Graham Pushey in my favorite city in all the world....Sydney. It must have been one of Graham's last productions as Ceasar. Now he is considered by many as the top manager of opera singers in all of Australia. Good on him!
I have to say I am SHOCKED by how expensive things are here in Australia! I nearly died of shock when the 17 year old blonde who was serving me at a burrito shop told me she was making 16. bucks an hour. I went online and the national minimum wage in Australia is $14.31 an hour. In the US it is $8. an hour. This is why people can afford to spend 13. bucks for a standard breakfast here.
The Adelaide festival has been amazing with their hospitality. Sarah Thompson who is the program executive is particularly wonderful with years in artistic admin. I suspect that she will go on to run the festival or eventually the Sydney Festival or Melbourne Festival in due course.
Regarding life in Adlelaide, it is comparable to the midwest of the US. You have a lot of common folk, a nice arts scene, and a huge amount of asians (not comparable to the midwest!) It seems as though 1 in 3 are either Chinese or Korean. The beach is quite nice here, although the occasional shark infestation makes me nervous, as they do tread into shallow waters.
At a high of about 94. degrees Fahrentheit it is very hot, but thankfully drier than Melbourne or Sydney.
That's it for now. The weekend has officially started. Tomorrow wine tasting in Adelaide Hills and the Barossa Valley. Riesling here we come!

It is great to have this website to stay in touch with friends and fans. Bravo Bill!
I am thrilled with my gigs for next season and even more thrilled that I can sing Ombra Cara from Handel's Radamisto in baroque pitch. This and Cara Sposa are Handel's best!
