(1786 - 1826).  German composer and conductor, he was also known as one of the greatest pianists of his generation.  Weber bridged the gap between classicism and romanticism by being one of the first to mine his own region's folklore to create a nationalistic sound.  His place in music history was secured by his infusion of romanticism into his compositions, especially in his supernatural fairy-tale opera "Der Freischutz".
