Federico Mompou (1893-1987) was a shy Spanish Catalan composer and pianist who chose composition over a potential performing career.  Known mainly for his solo piano music and songs, Mompou utilized an effective minimalism in his work, using few notes to sketch out vast swaths of impressionistic upper tonality mood.
