Luigi Boccherini, Composer
(1743-1805). Italian born Spanish composer and cellist. He grew up in the Italian city of Lucca, but his talents as a performer allowed him to secure positions at the Vienna Court Theater, the Concert Spirituel in Paris, and he later served as court composer in Prussia. From 1769 onward he was chamber composer to the royal court in Madrid. He also toured extensively. Over time, however, his music fell out of fashion, and he died in obscurity at Madrid in 1805.
