Biography
 

Sarah Barber, mezzo soprano, has performed with Central City Opera, West Bay Opera, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Opera Ft. Collins, Des Moines Metro Opera, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra , the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, the Colorado Music Festival,  the Longmont Symphony, the Veronika String Quartet, CU Opera, and in numerous competitions and recitals.   Ms. Barber’s awards include two-time Metropolitan Opera Competition Regional Finalist, three-time prize-winner in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild’s Competition, winner of the 1999 Eckstrand Graduate Competition (CU-Boulder), and 1998 Ft. Dodge (IA) Symphony Young Artist Competition winner. She was an apprentice with Des Moines Metro Opera (1999) and Central City Opera (2000) and holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Music from the University of Colorado at Boulder.   Recent operatic roles include the title role in Bizet’s Carmen, Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, the Witch in Hänsel und Gretel, and Tisbe in La Cenerentola. Her numerous concert performances include the 2007 world-premiere of Arion, a critically acclaimed chamber opera by Alexandra Eddy, Mozart’s Grand Mass in C Minor, Barber’s Dover Beach, and Respigi’s Il Tramonto.  She also tours and performs regularly with the Central City Opera Ensemble and the Denver-area vocal trio Enchanted Evening. Also a music educator, Ms. Barber maintains a private voice studio and teaches at the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts in Lafayette, CO.
