In the 2009-10 season, Ms. Lindstrom makes her Metropolitan Opera debut as Turandot. Opera News recently exclaimed of Lise Lindstrom’s performances of Turandot “every laser-like high note a brilliant, rock-solid monument to her voice and technique. The warmth came through, too, in the caressing of phrase after phrase, both in the aria and in the final duet. Her carefully conceived transformation from ice princess to woman in love was riveting.” The San Francisco Chronicle similarly praises her characterization of Salome as a “full-blown dramatic portrait” with “singing [that] was luxuriant and clear, cresting easily atop Strauss' thick orchestral writing.”
In this and upcoming seasons, she also sings further performances of Turandot with De Nederlandse Opera, Festival de Ópera de Coruña, San Diego Opera, and in a return to Deutsche Oper Berlin. She also returns to the role of Senta in Der fliegende Holländer with New Orleans Opera, sings her first performances of the title role in Tosca with Glimmerglass Opera, and joins the Cathedral Choral Society for Verdi’s Requiem at the Washington National Cathedral. In the 2008-09 season, she returned to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for a new production of Turandot and later sang the role at the Savonlinna Festival. She also sang her first performances of Elisabeth and Venus in Tannhäuser with Greek National Opera as well as the title role of Suor Angelica with Opera Tampa.
The title role of Turandot has been central to Ms. Lindstrom’s repertoire with previous critically acclaimed performances at Opera Hong Kong, Palm Beach Opera, Kentucky Opera, Orlando Opera, Cleveland Opera, Opera Grand Rapids, and Mobile Opera. She also recently made her debut at the at the Teatro Regio di Torino as the title role in Salome following previous performances of the work in a return to Cleveland Opera and concert performances of the final scene of Salome with the San Francisco Symphony under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas.
She made her European debut in Franchetti’s Germania at the Deutsche Oper Berlin conducted by Renato Palumbo. Other recent performances to the soprano’s credit include Senta in Der fliegende Holländer with Utah Opera and Opera Grand Rapids; Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Giulietta in Les contes d’Hoffmann, and Lady Rich in Britten’s Gloriana with Des Moines Metro Opera; and Magda in The Consul with Arizona Opera.
Ms. Lindstrom’s other orchestral collaborations include Verdi’s Requiem with the Brattleboro Festival in Vermont, Richard Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder at a gala concert in San Francisco, and the premiere performance of John Beeman’s Dos Retablos at New York’s Bard College. She was a featured soloist at the Sonora Bach Festival in California and has appeared in concert with mezzo-soprano Federica von Stade alongside pianist Martin Katz.
