Teo Gheorghiu | Alexander Scriabin
Lucerne, Switzerland
Tuesday, 28 August 2012 - 12:15 PM
Presenter: Lucerne Festival
A switch of careers? In 2006 pianist Teo Gheorghiu launched his international career, but as an actor taking on the part of a piano-playing prodigy. “Vitus” was the name of this film by Fredi Murer, in which Teo, who was 13 at the time, had the title role, appearing alongside the world-famous actor Bruno Ganz and winning accolades for his performance. He continues to receive praise, but now in reaction to his work as a musician. Born in 1992, Gheorghiu still studies with Gary Graffman at the acclaimed Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, but he has already appeared in concert with such ensembles as the Pittsburgh and Tokyo Symphony Orchestras, in recital at the Tonhalle in Zurich as well as at Wigmore Hall in London, and at the Verbier and Bad Kissingen Festivals. In 2010 Gheorghiu 2010 earned a special honor when he became the youngest recipient of the Beethoven Ring in that prestigious award’s history. It’s high time for his Lucerne debut!
