Frederica von Stade sings Fauré Melodies
My sense is that Gabriel Faure is completely under-rated as a composer! So much of his music is really sublime, that it is amazing it is not performed more frequently.
Now… here’s this new CD, issued March 22, 2011 with Gabriel Faure’s music.
CD Tracks are:
Perfomed by Frederica von Stade (mezzo-soprano) & Jean-Philippe Collard (piano)
Described by the New York Times as “one of America’s finest artists and singers,” Frederica von Stade continues to be identified as one of the music world’s most beloved mezzo-sopranos. She has enriched the world of classical music for three decades. This CD highlights the iconic recordings of Faure Melodies with Jean-Philippe Collard. Also included are “Melisande’s Song” from Faure’s Pelleas et Melisande with Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse under Michel Plasson.
Here is Frederica von Stade sings the closing aria from Rossini’s Cenerentola:
And here, with Kathleen Battle, she sings “Abendsegen (Evening Prayer) from the opera “Hansel und Gretel” by Humperdink
