I do not respond to Dutilleux's music, at least not as strongly as I respond to the music of other, musically more adventurous post-war composers (e.g., Maderna, Carter, Sessions, Stockhausen, Bussotti...). But I sure as hell respond to these committed performances, recorded with spectacular realism even by the high standards of live and unedited recordings from Ravinia Festival and Cleveland Int'l Piano Competition.
