The Organ Loft - March 27, 2011 Music for Bells Webcast and Broadcast Schedule
This week on the Organ Loft, we're featuring a program about bells and organ/choral works which include bells or bell themes. Roger Sherman includes a work for bells and organ from the mid-1400s and played on an organ from the same period. Also some Bach organ works played on handbells, and Stephen Kennedy’s new work 3-3-33; written for the inauguration of the new organ at Eastman, it includes extensive parts for the glockenspiel stop and zimbelstern. The program concludes with an unusual version of Dupre’s Cortege and Litany, which most people know as an organ work. There was also a version for orchestra which unlike the organ solo version, included bells. We will hear the orchestral version (with bells) transcribed for organ, and played by Peter Conte on the Wanamaker organ.
A somewhat unusual program — even for us. We hope you enjoy.
